Hair loss can be a sign that something is not right. For example, your hormones could be all out of wack or you are not eating a healthy diet. These are examples of conditions that cause hair loss and are treatable by getting your body back into balance. here are a few other things to know about female hair loss.

Birth Control

There are types of birth control pills that cause hair loss. Birth control-induced hair loss does not happen right away, hair loss is gradual, so much do that it might take months and even years before you notice. The solution to this type of hair loss is quite easy, have your doctor switch you to a different birth control pill.

Your hair thrives on progesterone and estrogen and the only way to produce these hormones ios through ovulation; you have to have a normal cycle. So this is why if you suddenly stop taking your birth control pills, you can suffer hair loss. This is also why women who have just given birth can suffer hair loss.

Hair loss from pill withdrawal should improve in a few moths as long as you continue having a regular cycle.

Iron is critical for hair growth. You could be suffering hair loss if you have an iron deficiency. However, even if your hair loss is due to other factors like birth control pills, you need to make sure you are getting plenty of iron as it will help with recovery.

Inflammation can cause hair loss. If this is the cause of your hair loss, avoid inflammatory foods like sugar, dairy and wheat.

Zinc is very good for your hair because it blocks androgens, reduces inflammation and promotes ovulation. It also directly stimulates hair growth. You could be suffering a zinc deficiency of you are on hormonal birth control or if you are on a vegetarian diet and not getting the proper nutrients. Red meat is a great source of zinc. However, if you are a vegetarian you might prefer pumpkin seeds, kidney beans or flax seeds.

A diet low in carbs might trick your hypothalamus into thinking you are starving, which could lead it to shut down ovulation. You need to make sure you are getting enough carbs in your diet.

Even with the best available treatments, results may not be seen for months. Remember, your hair has a growing phase and a resting phase and you never know what phase your hair is in. Stay cool and be patient and stick with your treatment and you will see results.
